Culture of LIFE
I find myself filled with so many different emotions today. On this 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001 I am filled with sorrow and filled with hope all at the same time. This nation has been heavy on my heart particularly over this past weekend. Just yesterday I had the honor of joining a group of teenagers and young adults as we silently prayed outside of one the abortion clinics in our city. Standing outside of that clinic I was reminded of how we need God now more than ever. We quote Second Chronicles chapter seven so much but we have to ask ourselves whether or not we are really heeding the wisdom and direction provided by God in that passage of scripture.
Just to be clear I am in no way suggesting that the attacks of 9/11 are the result of abortion in America. Those attacks were the evil works of radical Islamic terrorists who were filled with hatred towards our country. These men under the diabolical influence of a false and violent religion, were responsible for a day of death the likes of which had not been experienced on American soil since the Civil War. Whether the threats we face come from enemies of foreign lands or the domestic enemies of sinful social policies, we have to recognize that our help comes from the Lord and Him alone. I believe that we can see a culture of life restored to our nation. This is not something that is dictated by a political party but by the moving of the Spirit of God transforming lives and restoring hope. Jesus is the the Ruler of the nations and we are His ambassadors in this world. Change starts when we as the people of God seek Him and turn to Him with all our hearts.
This is a solemn day for our nation. As a Christian, former U.S. Marine, war veteran, and pastor this has been a day filled with introspection for me personally. Please forgive me if I seem to lack coherency in my thoughts. My heart and prayers go out to the families and loved ones left behind as a result of the those attacks. My heart and prayers also go out to the men and women who have so bravely answered the call to defend our nation with many of them paying the ultimate price.
We can look forward to the future with a hope that is not based on the ability of man but rooted in the goodness and sovereignty of God. As we look forward, let us not forget to remember. It is the healthy remembrance that keeps us humble before God as we continue to acknowledge our dependence upon Him. These are very serious days that we are living in. While there are those who seek to spread death one way or another, I have chosen to stand for life. A culture of life is a culture that draws its vitality through a constant connection with the Source of life. The bible teaches very clearly that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. This life not only benefits us but as we are obedient to God’s will it touches and changes the communities around us. Let’s plug into the life of God. I declare that we will live and not die!
