Everything Has Changed and Will Continue to Change
I know that I said that I would be posting messages from my latest series but I have to get this off of my chest. We have been experiencing a transition at my home church, Jubilee International Ministries. I have been experiencing transition personally in ministry and even in my family. Our youngest daughter is in public school for the first time in her life. We have just launched another one of our daughters into her college career and we will be seeing yet another daughter married in a matter of months. Change is definitely in the air!
I have come to the realization that I am not as comfortable with change as I thought I was. Am I the only one? Even though I would like to think of myself as cutting edge I am almost embarrassed to admit to you that maybe I have allowed that edge to become a little dull in some areas. If you are like me and change irks you when it rears its uncomfortable head, here is a message to get you through: Constant change is here to stay! There, wasn’t that comforting? The reality is that things will never stay still and if we try staying still we will get left behind.
Even though change is constant, God’s character is also constant. Fashion, media, technology, people, weather, body weight, and hair color all have one thing in common. All of these things are subject to change (to the despair of some). God is never subject to change. He is the Sovereign Ruler over all things. On the contrary, He is the One who initiates change. Even though He initiates change He also takes time to tell us and prepare us in advance. Isaiah 42:9 says that God declares new events and He announces them before they even occur. If we take a look at the scriptures we will find many examples saying what He was going to do and then doing it.
So as we go through transition after transition the key to success is for our lives to be founded on the Rock that does not change. Even in the midst of the storms of life the Holy Spirit is our Navigator who gives us the direction that we need to make it safely through. That is why our ears must be open to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is speaking to His people and to His Church.
